September 5th, 2008- I spent the day in the aviary tidying up after a huge storm that blew through Phoenix. The birds and aviaries all survived, but the clean-up has taken a long time and my back needs a break!
Thankfully, this late summer storm brought with it a few days of much needed cooler temperatures in the valley and I know that the birds are thankful for it. This summer has been a HOT one and the Cockatiels
2008 Breeding Notes
112 has a regalness about him that we often notice in only the very best birds. Like they now how incredible they are and want you to know it, too! As I toured the greenhouse examining all of the new birds, 112 remained very calm and proud as if to say "you can't compare me to anyone here."
March '08 UPDATE- 112 was paired to 1254, a striking normal hen, but clear eggs were the result of this first pairing. This isn't unusual, since 112 hasn't bred in several years. He's spending the summer in our main flight in the hopes that some fresh air, sunshine and large areas to fly in will re-invigorate his fertility for a fall pairing!
The 186 Triangle - As many of you know, Hera has always been my "Top Girl" here, so when I got 2 of her cousins AND the pedigrees lined up for a perfect triangle, I couldn't wait to see the babies!
Hera, pictured right
1201, a Pearl Hen (pictured above left) is from Hera's brother and 1251, a Dominant Silver Cock (pictured above right) is from Hera's sister! This is the PERFECT recipe for a triangle linebreeding since the hen gives her son 1/2 of her sex-linked genes and the cock gives his daughters all of his!
The chicks from this pairing are amazing... Since the line is very slow to develop, we're keeping all nine here to see how they mature but all signs so far point to more birds of Hera's caliper flying through our aviaries in the not-so-distant future! Take a look at a few that we're keeping an eye on:
Hera's New Cousins!
I still can't tell if any are Dominant Silvers, though! No matter either way, but most have been pearls and it's REALLY hard to tell with the addition of that mutation...
Another treasure in Linda's shipment is Angus. An original son of Hogan & Charmin, this boy is a VERY rare addition to our breeding program. Pair #16 and 1/2 of the famed #54 pairing, this is another that I couldn't wait to set-up to breed!
In keeping with the Libidos of the Greeson boys, he went right to nest with the hen that I chose for him, 55G-1302-05 and they both produced some beautiful young birds (10 to be exact).
These youngsters are still growing and filling out, but we're keeping a close eye on them and will take more photos as they develop!
Here are two of Angus' latest babies (both photos left) and another shot of Angus (below right)

Well... We can't keep EVERYTHING!
Alot of great birds came and went from the aviary this year, especially with all of the Greeson birds that spent some time here.
Among these temporaries was a beautiful 55G Whiteface Pearl Hen that Bobby Jordan down in Houston Texas bought. He paired it to another full-blood Greeson boy from Apollo & Leta and magic happened!
He discovered that his A/L cock was also split to Whiteface (Leta, his mother is a split) and Whiteface babies were born!
A short time afterward, he began to send photos of these babies and I absolutely fell in love with a Whiteface Hen from this pairing - So, Bobby sent her to me as a "Thank You" gift!
When I tell you that this hen is exquisite, I'm not exaggerating! She is going to be one busy girl here - between shows and having babies, I've got LOTS of plans for her! Her brother joined her in the flight and he's going to be a busy boy,
too! Here are the photos that Bobby sent (both left)
Here are some recent photos that I took (below): click photos for a larger view
So, she's officially been named "Jordan" and I'm excited to continue watching her develop. Her chest is already much wider than Bobby's initial photos suggest, and her head is beginning to develop a gorgeous hawkey brow and stately crest. Over the next two years, she should mature into a regal example of her mutation and compete against some of the finest Whitefaces in the Country!
Lets get the BALLS Rolling!
Yet another unforgettable Greeson Girl - Angus' Sister, Shelby - joined the 2008 breeding line-up this year. Shelby is large, long and elegant with a head-dress that begs to be noticed.
Shelby was paired to Balls in Dec. and allowed to raise a beautiful clutch of three incredible January '08 babies.
Just as we hoped, these chicks have tremendous head packages, just like Papa! We got two Lutino girls and one Normal boy from their first pairing and then put Shelby back in to the main flight for some exercise and sunshine.
Here are the babies:
Still being handfed as chicks (left) as young birds (above) and young adults (below)
have weathered it like the champs they are, but I join them in looking forward to the cool evenings that October brings with it.
I didn't breed many of the birds this summer. We had plans to take the winter (2007/08) off and let everyone settle in to the main flight for some rest and relaxation and - while my birds enjoyed all of the R&R that our time off afforded - I stayed VERY busy with a different flock!
Linda Greeson asked me to sell some of her birds for her. She lives appx 3 hours from the closest airport and driving there on a weekly basis wasn't an option, so instead - she bundled 30 of her gorgeous linebred birds and sent them off to Phoenix. I live close to our airport, so shipping birds out to all of you is easy!
She also encouraged me to breed the birds before I sold them! WOW... What an opportunity that was! I couldn't wait to meet them.
December 30th, 2007- I put 30 full-blooded Greeson birds into the greenhouse when they arrived, and even though many were in full moults, I could tell that these were some incredible birds. It was almost surreal meeting some of the birds that I had only seen in pedigrees.
55G-112-98, the father of Apollo & Ares and the grandfather of some of my largest birds here was among the birds that arrived that day. Even among all of these large birds, he stood out - and I could see why Linda used him so much.
Wow... Look at the Hawkey Heads on these chicks!
WOW!

What is Image Verification ( Captcha )?
A security test to determine whether or not the user is human. This will ensure that only human visitors will actually submit the form, and not spamming bots that are browsing the web from site to site and submit spam where they can. It is well known that programmers can do programs for many jobs, including visiting a large amount of sites on the Internet by following links from page to page and collect emails listed on websites, submit contact forms, or even trying to break passwords by trying to login over and over again with computer generated passwords.
Fortunately, it is impossible for a non-human ( ex. computer program ) to extract a word or a combination of letters and numbers from an image, if the letters and numbers are not all of the same size and of similar font. This is why, the Image Verification security method ensures that only people actually can submit a form.
