(Mix costs $1.50/lb dry and doubles in weight when soaked overnight)
Mix all ingredients thoroughly and measure out desired amount to soak & sprout. I feed 20 Amazons, 65
Cockatiels, 1 B&G Macaw and a Patagonian Conure (plus the neighborhood birds) on 7 cups of dry mix soaked &
sprouted with vegetables added.
Soak desired amount in a large pot filled with warm water and a small amount of white vinegar overnight (I soak
mine at 10pm and drain by 10am).
Drain soaked seeds into a large colander (small mesh) and rinse with lots of warm water. Let colander drain for
a few minutes, then place on a plate and allow this to sit under a loosley draped cheesecloth in a warm location.
Rinse again with warm water in the evening and allow to sit overnight. The next morning, give your soaked seeds
a final rinse with plenty of warm water and let the colander drain. The soaked & sprouting seeds should have a
pleasant and fresh fragrance and not be sour smelling at all.
Pour sprouts into a large container and add the following:
5 blend- frozen vegetables.
dark leafy greens such as Dandelion chopped
Fresh apples, carrots, Broccoli, etc may also be added
Potent Brew from The Bird Care Company (follow directions on the bottle)
Calcivet from The Bird Care Company (follow directions on the bottle)
Sprinkle with dried Parsley Flakes (optional). Do not add dried herbs as a substitute.
Toss until ingredients are blended well and serve.
- Winter Note - With the cooler temperatures my mix isn't sprouting nearly as fast as it does during the warm weather. This does not affect the nutritional composition of the ingredients, but since my birds enjoy the sweet tails of sprouting seeds, I simply lay the plate, colander and seeds (covered with a bit of cheesecloth) on top of a heating pad set on the lowest setting !

One more note... Remember that this is a live breakfast I am feeding my birds. Therefore, I remove this mix after 3-4 hours to avoid any bacterial contamination. I make mine fresh every single day. I do not refrigerate unused portions and feed it again later.
