Favorite TopTiels Birds Born in 2006
Best Lutino Pearl Hen Haley is our pick for the best Lutino Pearl Hen of 2006, but she may just be our best breeding of the year !! A phenomenal pairing of Tory linebred genetics has blended our best Tory hen, Dottie with our showiest Normal / Lutino & Pearl cock, Balls to create this irreplaceable young hen.
Dottie (Haley's mother) passed away earlier this year. She was a magical soul that was always there to give us a warm greeting on our morning rounds through the aviary & greenhouse. As beautiful as she was, it paled in comparison to her cheerful attitude and gentle nature especially around the neighborhood children who love to stop by and say "hi" to all of our birds.
But, before she passed, she and Balls bred and Haley is the result. Dottie will be missed at TopTiels for years to come, but she lives on in her one and only daughter, whose personality is every bit as endearing as her mother's was.
Haley is a rich blend of sunshine yellow and buttercream. She is extremely full chested and has a wonderful wide head with deeply set large eyes and a magnificent Hawky brow. Her crest is long and elegant and she never stops showing off to her admirers. Like many of our other Lutinos here, capturing a photograph that actually does her justice has proven to be difficult. But, take our word for it ... In person, she is as unforgettable as her parents.
In the future, Haley will play a large role in our Tory & Greeson breeding programs. She will be linebred to her father, who has a large Greeson background to begin with, and then to some of our best purebred Greeson cocks. Hopefully, a new family will emerge as a result and offspring will compete on show benches across the country.
Best Normal Cock Rocky is one beautiful bird and worthy of our pick for best Normal cock - 2006 !!
His father is 16P-121-05 bred by Phil Feret. With almost a full Greeson pedigree, 121 came to our aviary in early 2005 and we were extremely excited to introduce him to our hens. He quickly chose a large Cinnamon showgirl from Moose & Sadie and they've been inseparable ever since.
Sadie is also linebred for her valuable Greeson genes, so the pair couldn't have been better had we chosen them ourselves.
This young pair of birds wowed us with their determination to nest at such an early age and we are so thankful that they insisted !! In the future, this duo will produce more outstanding
examples of what "the Classic Greeson Look" is all about. Large blocky heads on long full frames, big soft puppy dog eyes and an attitude befitting royalty.
Rocky is a nice big bird, with a triangular-shaped head, deep hawky brow and beautiful full crest. His eyes are perfectly proportioned and his large frame stands tall and glides effortlessly through our flights.
Interestingly, our plans were to introduce Rocky to a purebred Greeson hen, but he beat us to the punch ! While they are still too young to breed, he has chosen an outstanding Greeson Cinnamon Pearl hen from Apollo & Leta and they are spending the Arizona winter resting in the sun.
Best Pearl Hen & Pearl Cock Now everyone enjoys a good mystery right ?
Mystery almost made it to the Nationals this year at the insistence of Josh Maple, but flight delays made this impossible - so we'll just let her enjoy the cool winter days right here at home. She decided to share the chilly nights with Neon, our brightly colored January boy from a gorgeous pair of Dominant Yellow Cheeks and this led to three fertile eggs that they have tended to like the pros they will someday become.
December 26th, 2006 - Two adorable babies are now being handfed. One is a Lutino Pearl hen and the other is a normal pearl. Photos will be coming soon !!
While this pair chose to begin their breeding careers earlier than many, they proudly tended their eggs like they had been doing this forever. Hens and cocks all mature differently and these two youngsters show that when they're ready - they're ready.
In the future, Mystery will be introduced to another cock from our Greeson lines and Neon to another hen. Neon sports an extremely yellow pigment that was evidenced as a young chick. In fact, he was referred to as the "orange-pinned baby" because his young feathers (still in their sheaths) were literally glowing orange! When he finished feathering out, the orange faded to an intense yellow that he wears proudly to this day.
In addition to his extraordinary color, he has a beautiful shape, a nice head and a cheerful disposition, so we're naming Neon our best of 2006 Pearl cock!
A security test to determine whether or not the user is human. This will ensure that only human visitors will actually submit the form, and not spamming bots that are browsing the web from site to site and submit spam where they can. It is well known that programmers can do programs for many jobs, including visiting a large amount of sites on the Internet by following links from page to page and collect emails listed on websites, submit contact forms, or even trying to break passwords by trying to login over and over again with computer generated passwords.
Fortunately, it is impossible for a non-human ( ex. computer program ) to extract a word or a combination of letters and numbers from an image, if the letters and numbers are not all of the same size and of similar font. This is why, the Image Verification security method ensures that only people actually can submit a form.
