When I began collecting high quality exhibition lines from other breeders, my first call was to Julia Allen, which - at the time - was the president of the National Cockatiel Society. I did this because I knew that above everyone else, she would know where to go for great breeding stock. Her recommendation was Philip Feret.
After a couple of great phone calls, Phil and I decided to meet in Tucson, AZ at the Great American Show. He was bringing me my first show birds! When he introduced me to the cage of 5 birds, he explained that he always tries to give a "newbie" one great bird that it hurts him to let go... Then he pointed to Clyde and said "that's the bird that hurts".
Years later, I've come to understand just what Phil gave me that day. Clyde is the son of 40B-110-93, a Whiteface Pearl cock from Lloyd Bailey and 16P-137-01, a large Cinnamon Pearl hen from a pair #16 cock and a Keith Jennings hen.
This boy is pretty buff, a condition of feathers that would stop him from ever being shown at competitions - but, BOY can he ever give beautiful babies!
This year, he was paired to 124-05 from Kathy Short. She's a wonderful hen and a very devoted mother. Last year, she raised some gorgeous chicks with 417 and there was never even a need to pull them.
But, she's also split to Whiteface (so is Clyde) and I've been wanting some good quality whitefaces to work with for awhile now.
Out of four happy & Healthy chicks, I got 1 Whiteface Cinnamon Pearl / Pied chick and three Cinnamon Pearl / Pieds. They're all just fantastic and I couldn't be happier with the pairing. I'm keeping the Whiteface back so that I can continue to improve my lines here, but Wendy La Banca is getting one of the Cinnamon Pearls, and I'll probably sell another one.
In the future, Clyde will continue to be bred with other Whitefaces and split to whitefaces, so that they can be crossed back into each other - but for now, I'm going to enjoy watching these babies grow and evolve into stately young birds! I'll post more photos as time allows...

What is Image Verification ( Captcha )?
A security test to determine whether or not the user is human. This will ensure that only human visitors will actually submit the form, and not spamming bots that are browsing the web from site to site and submit spam where they can. It is well known that programmers can do programs for many jobs, including visiting a large amount of sites on the Internet by following links from page to page and collect emails listed on websites, submit contact forms, or even trying to break passwords by trying to login over and over again with computer generated passwords.
Fortunately, it is impossible for a non-human ( ex. computer program ) to extract a word or a combination of letters and numbers from an image, if the letters and numbers are not all of the same size and of similar font. This is why, the Image Verification security method ensures that only people actually can submit a form.
