About Us
Just a few of our favorite Cockatiels ...
---- Whitney, Pasteface Pearl split Pied cock
Every once and awhile, great birds just fall into my lap.  Not often enough, by my standards, but enough to
keep it interesting.
Such is the case with Whitney and Spring (Whitney's cousin pictured below). Bred by a wonderful aviary in
Cave Creek, AZ, these kids are absolutely stunning examples of what can be achieved through careful and
selective breeding techniques.
Bred with large eyes in mind, their breedings also impart impressive size, dramatic coloring and a very
sweet & gentle disposition.  Here, in our aviaries, we hope to continue this breeder's work and introduce
larger crests and the classic hawkey brow into this beautiful mutation.

Spring is another outstanding Pastelface bred by a friend in Cave Creek,
Arizona.
She has beautiful big eyes and an extremely inquisitive outlook.  When

----- Lacey & Dominic, Pastelface Lutino hen and Pastelface
Cinnamon cock
Lacey started my love of the Pastelface mutation.  Victoria
Sutton (suttonaviaries.com) and I have been friends for awhile
and we recently traded birds.  I got Lacey, and I just couldn't be happier.  She's sweet and gorgeous
and blends perfectly with some of my beautiful pedigreed stock.  I'm crossing my fingers that she and
Clyde realize true love, because the pairing would not only net gorgeous babies,  but some should
also be Pastelfaces, since Clyde is split to Whiteface.  With any Pastelfaces, it's best to pair them
with a Whiteface of the opposite sex.  When this is done, we get some Pastelfaces and some
Whitefaces.
Pastelface is a fairly new mutation and, because it is, there is not a large gene pool to breed, so
alt
sometimes getting full Pastelface (instead of the splits shown here) is difficult.  Somewhere along the way, a lethal gene planted itself in their
pool and when Pastelface and Pastelface breed together, there seems to be a very low survival count amongst the offspring.  We're working
on it, however and will report our findings here on TopTiels.com.
In the meantime, we're concentrating on the development of Pastelface tiels that do not involve whiteface in their splits.  We're hoping
(through careful selection and linebreeding) to breed some outstanding specimens using our famous Greeson birds as outcrosses.  The first
generation has already been born and are busy flying and gaining weight.  These will be paired to some select whiteface tiels to prove splits
(some will be split Whiteface and some will be split Pastelface) and those who are split Pastelface will be held back to breed with new splits.
This is going to take awhile, but the results should be breathtaking.

Lily, Golden Pearl Hen  & Graham, Normal /  Pearl Pied (?) and Lutino (?)
Another coveted line of birds heralds from Maple Leaf Aviaries.  Owner, Josh Maple is a young breeder
and judge for NCS (
The National Cockatiel Society).  His birds impart size, conformation, crest, eyes and
an intense color seldom found in other lines of birds.  He is well known among professional breeders
nationwide and only shares his best birds with a select few.  We feel very fortunate to include two of his
exceptional birds in our flock.
Lily and Graham are brother and sister and will be bred to only the top birds at TopTiels.  Since the
Lutinos at Josh's aviaries are what he has become known for, our long range plans include the
development of some outstanding Lutinos here, and this line will begin with these two birds as anchors for
the new breedings.  They are both young birds, so barring any complications, they should be able to add
to our aviary for years and years to come.

removed from the main flight and released into a smaller individual breeding flight, she immediately picks
up where she left off.  Eating, preening, and eying her new mate (which is currently Ares).  She's one of
those wonderful unshakeable birds and we're proud to have her here with us.
Her pairing with Ares has resulted in some beautiful splits (Pieds, Pearl & Normals) that will be bred to
some equally impressive split Pastelfaces in the coming seasons.
