About Us
YOUR NEW COCKATIEL BABY
Your new hand-fed Cockatiel has been held, cuddled and socialized from the age of two to
three weeks. Your new tiel is very tame and affectionate and looks to you and your family
(including your animals) as part of his new flock.
Your new friend wants to be with you, on you or near you most of the time. He depends on you
for everything, including companionship. This bird MUST be cared for physically and emotionally
or it WILL become a very unhappy and unfriendly. This can lead to biting, feather pulling and it can
even go as far as self-mutilation. Always remember that :
YOU are its world,
YOU are everything,
YOU are all your new friend has to socialize with and depend on.
When you first bring your new baby home, make sure that you have a cage prepared. Don't drag
your new friend around from store to store whilst you pick up supplies. When you arrive, baby will
be a bit upset. It will be looking for us, for its siblings, for familiar sights and sounds.
Here are a couple of steps for an anxious baby (and new owner!) for the first day:
1) Let baby calm down and sit in its cage for at least a couple of hours. Cover partially, but let it
see you. Don't expect it to eat much yet.
2) After baby has been in the new cage for a while, take it out and play with it, keep it occupied.
Talk to it, etc.
3) You and your bird will be adjusted in a matter of just a few days. You will know your bird better
than you thought, and your bird will know you. Soon you will discover how precious and smart your
baby is.
4) Visit our articles page for tons of helpful information.
At TopTiels Aviaries, we are confident that with proper care and continued socialization, your new
pet will give you years and years of wonderful companionship.
