"Dear Don, You refer to some of your birds as having a hawk-like or Hawkey brow. What does this mean ?" - Anne, St. Charles Mn

Hi Anne,
Great question !! The "Hawkey Brow" I often refer to is the protruding brow over the top of the bird's eyes. This is a
great attribute for anyone to strive for in their breeding program and most judges (if showing your birds is in your
future plans) LOVE a nice Hawkey Brow !!
This is one of my favorite traits to breed toward and I have had some great successes here. Balls is one of my
Hawkier birds and he tends to pass this trait onto his sons quite often. His daughters seem to inherit this trait in
varying degrees. Haley (a Lutino Pearl hen out of Dottie and Balls) has a gorgeous hawkey brow, but when I bred
Balls to a Cinnamon Pied hen from Pat Tucker & Josh Maple, his daughters didn't seem to inherit this to the extent
that some of my other birds have. This brow seems to become more pronounced with maturity, too.
Most of my birds do share this trademark in varying levels of intensity and here are some examples (I hope this
helps).
Thanks for writing,
:) Don
