Ok, here's a good story for everyone. Let's
call this one "Tory and his two mates", ok ?
Tory and his two mates
Once upon a time, long long ago there
were two great friends (Phil & Kathy) that
bred Cockatiels. Each had their own homes,
their own birds and their own ways of
breeding, yet both were very close and
shared all of their breeding secrets and
many of their beautiful birds with each other.
Phil owned a gorgeous bird that he
affectionately named "Chicken George", who
was bred by Linda Greeson. Linda was
known for breeding some of the largest
Cockatiels available and "George" was one
of Phil's favorites. He bred George many
many times, but for this particular breeding,
he paired George to a Big & Beautiful Lutino
Pearl hen from Bob Cape. The chicks born
from this pairing were incredible. Big
Hawkey heads, long bodies, stout
appearances... Just really really great birds !!
Now, Christmas was right around the
corner, so Phil chose the best chick from
George and his mate and presented this
fantastic bird to Kathy as a holiday gift.
Kathy loved her present and she named him "Tory".
With each passing year, Tory became more
gorgeous than before. He was a proud boy and
quickly became one of Kathy's best birds. Now Kathy
is a very smart woman and she knows a great bird
when she sees it. So Kathy decided that this bird's
genetics were never to be lost and she decided to
Linebreed Tory (This was a very very wise move on
Kathy's part).
To begin, she chose two irresistible hens from her
own aviary. One, a Lutino Pearl (16P-22-93) and the
other, a Cinnamon Pearl / Pied (16P-220-94). These
two hens were both bred to Tory and as his sons
and daughters matured, she realized that they were
absolutely beautiful. Next, she paired chicks from
the two separate breedings and kept these babies
back to mature. When she was finished, she had
some of the most outstanding chicks ever produced.
These birds went onto show benches all over the
country and one after another were proclaimed
Grand Champions by judge after judge. She named
this line "Tory 1/2 and 1/2" because she used 1/2
siblings to create them.
Years later, this line is still highly sought after as some of the best birds in the country. TopTiels
is fortunate to have many birds here with the famous Tory 1/2 and 1/2 line running through them.
We will hopefully continue Kathy & Phil's work in creating some of the most striking Cockatiels
available anywhere. In years to come, we are confident that Tory and his two mates will play a
large part in the quality of the chicks born here at TopTiels.
